Top Gear tackles the 'Road of Death' in Bolivia
It may be Christmas, but at least we still get a new episode of Top Gear this Sunday – Episode 6 of series 14. But be warned; it’s on at yet another time slot – 7.45pm BBC2 – but that’s because it’s 75 minutes long instead of the regular one hour. This week is a Top Gear special with the boys tackling a journey across Bolivia in a quest to reach the coast of Chile.
‘Design the 2020 Ampera': That's the challenge being thrown down to European design students by Opel/Vauxhall's design team in a new interactive competition launched today in conjunction with Car Design News. The Car Design News - Opel/Vauxhall Interactive competition builds on last year's inaugural competition, which tasked students with designing a ‘Lounge in motion'. The prizes
- Six-month paid internship at their design studios in Russelsheim, Germany
- Finalists will have their work displayed on the Opel/Vauxhall stand at the 2012 Paris salon de l'auto and be invited to attend the show, where the winner will be announced
The brief
Most students will be well aware of Opel/Vauxhall's ground breaking Ampera - the range-extended electric vehicle that goes on sale across Europe in 2012.
Citroën's Cactus concept featuring a mysterious sounding 'Air Bump' technology will be taking center stage at the carmaker's stand at this year's Frankfurt motor show. The carmaker has released just one image of the concept along with a 21-second video (see left) showing a spongy panel labeled ‘Air Bump' being poked. Although this doesn't really tell us much about what this new technology actually does, we suspect the panels featured in the video are inserted into the bumper and can protect it from the smaller-scale collisions that can happen in everyday life.
